For those who like to do everything themselves, plumbing is one of the more difficult tasks to do on your own. It can be very frustrating to fix a plumbing situation correctly and without going crazy. There are a few tips that will help you, however.
If you need to disconnect a soldered pipe, the best way is to cut it. However, sometimes this isn't an option. A trick for this is to heat the joint up so you can pull the fitting off when the solder melts. Just make sure to wipe the solder with a wet rag before it hardens, and wear gloves while doing this.
Another trick is to use plastic drain lines instead of metal ones. While metal looks more reliable, plastic is much better for many reasons. It's easier to adjust and tighten, install, and overall cheaper. It also won't corrode like metal will. If a metal drain is leaking, your best bet is to replace all of it with plastic.
